Mr. Matz has over 35 years of experience in the energy infrastructure space as a principal investor, lender and financial advisor. Matz has executed over $8 billion of complex, acquisitions and asset-based capital market solutions for energy and infrastructure assets located worldwide and has expertise in renewable energy generation technologies and fuels, including anaerobic digesters, solar, waste-to-energy, hydro, geothermal, wind, and landfill gas.
Howard is currently a Managing Director of Derivee Power & Energy, a power and energy investment platform focused on mid-stage renewable generation development opportunities. Matz was Managing Director and head of Debt and Capital Markets at Abatis Capital, LLC, a private equity firm, based in New York City.
Prior to Abatis, he was a Senior Vice President and head of Project Finance for Covanta Energy Group where he was responsible for arranging non-recourse infrastructure project financings for both green-field development and acquisition opportunities including the first financing for a base-load private power project and high voltage transmission line in Asia without any government guarantee and the first registered non-recourse bond financing in an emerging market.
Mr. Matz graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie-Mellon University and a Master of Building Sciences from Carnegie-Mellon University, with studies at the Graduate School of Business and the School of Urban and Public Affairs.
